Dare - site of WWII Memorial - is some 12 km along the very winding road to Maubisse and some 534 m above Díli. It is from this area that Australian soldiers used to observe Díli after the Japanese invaded in 1942. A plaque here commemorates the help afforded by the Timorese to the Australian soldiers.
